When Black Button began in 2012, we were one of the first farm distilleries in New York State. This meant, that when Jason Barrett, our President and Master Distiller, made our first batch of bourbon it was not only the first produced in Rochester since prohibition but a 100% New York State Bourbon. All our corn, wheat, rye, and barley are grown in the finger lakes just a short drive from the distillery. Even our water is sourced from Hemlock Lake in the Finger Lakes, gaining its purity by being filtered through the limestone and shale formations of western New York resulting in a taste that cannot be found anywhere else. Finally, we source the highest quality American Oak barrels from our partners at Adirondack Barrel Cooperage. These local sources, our team’s artistry at the still, and our unique climate all contribute to creating the finest New York State Bourbon right here in our hometown of Rochester, NY.
Our flagship Four-Grain Straight Bourbon whiskey has a mash bill of 60% Corn, 20% Wheat, 11% Malted Barley, and 9% Rye. Carefully aged for years and then bottled at 84 proof this is a complex and drinkable bourbon. On the nose pleasant oak meets sweet earthy spice, your first sip will bring baking spices, classic caramel, and vanilla, with a lingering spice and oak finish. Our process is unique in that we use 94% Danko Rye grown on the shores of Conesus Lake. This big, bold, spicy grain captures the true spirit of the Empire State. Our temperature controlled fermentation and proprietary pot, column, pot, column distillation method all contribute to our unique flavor profile, all before being set to age in our custom charred barrels.
The Empire Rye requirement to use local grains and barrel down at a lower proof, in combination with our harsh NY winters and hot humid summers, all contribute to the unique flavor of this product. Unfiltered to provide you with true and authentic flavor, our Rye is best enjoyed neat, on the rocks or in a traditional whiskey cocktail.

94% Danko Rye • 6% Malted Barley
Fill a rocks glass with ice, add the Absinthe and set aside.
Muddle the sugar cube with the bitters and rye in a mixing glass, then add ice and stir. Dump out the ice and Absinthe from the rocks glass & strain the cocktail from the mixing glass into the rocks glass.
Lemon peel garnish.
