In an extraordinary fusion of artistry and craftsmanship, Black Button Distilling proudly announces its latest creation: Rhapsody 100 Sonic-Aged Single Barrel Bourbon. Teaming up with the prestigious Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO), Black Button Distilling pays homage to the timeless masterpiece “Rhapsody in Blue” by George Gershwin and celebrates the RPO’s remarkable 100th season.
Crafted with care and precision, Rhapsody 100 emerges from a single barrel of Four Grain Bourbon, aged for five months to the stirring performance of Gershwin’s iconic composition. This unique aging process, known as sonic aging, involves playing a piece of music directly to the barrel. In this aging, the RPO’s performance of the classic masterpiece (conducted by Principal Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik and featuring pianist Jon Nakamatsu) was played, resulting in a vibrant and flavorful spirit produced by the dynamic vibrations of brass and percussion.
With only 100 bottles available for purchase, Rhapsody 100 stands as a testament to the dedication and collaboration between Black Button Distilling and the RPO. Each bottle represents a harmonious blend of musical excellence and artisanal expertise, encapsulating the essence of Gershwin’s masterpiece in every sip.
“We’re very excited to collaborate with the RPO once again on a sonic barrel aged bourbon,” shares Jason Barrett, Founder & Master Distiller of Black Button Distilling. “Other distillers have sonic aged barrels of bourbon to the music of Metallica, Pearl Jam, and the Talking Heads. At Black Button, we enjoy partnering with the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as their performances provide for a more soothing experience which we feel creates a smooth and sophisticated drinking experience.”
For enthusiasts eager to savor the symphony in a glass, Rhapsody 100 is now available for presale. This limited-edition bourbon will be available for pick-up only at our Tasting Room.
