Black Button Distilling’s Citrus Forward Gin has won Best Spirit at the 2015 New York Wine & Food Classic competition in Watkins Glen, officials said Thursday.

The grain to glass craft distillery was received the recognition at the event which ran from Aug. 11 to 12. The event included 858 New York wines, 20 hard ciders, and 32 craft spirits spanning Long Island to Lake Erie.

“Our Citrus Forward Gin took almost a year to perfect, using only locally sourced grain, barley, coriander, and Cascade hops,” said Jason Barrett, owner and head distiller of Black Button Distilling, in a statement. “It’s been called the gin of the summer, and with this award, it’s living up to that title. We are thankful to the New York Wine & Grape Foundation for recognizing the hard work and high quality of our Citrus Forward Gin.”

Complete results of the event can be found at newyorkwines.org.
